Millions of households across the UK will soon see their TV licence bill go up again, with the annual fee rising to \u00a3180 from April 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The increase of \u00a35.50 may seem modest, but with household bills still under pressure, many are asking whether they actually need to pay \u2014 and what happens if they don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

How much the TV licence is rising<\/h2>\n

From 1 April 2026<\/strong>, the cost of a standard colour TV licence<\/a> will rise from \u00a3174.50 to \u00a3180 per year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s an extra 46p a month for households paying the full fee. The price rise is part of a government agreement allowing the fee to increase in line with inflation until at least 2027.<\/p>\n

    What happens if you don\u2019t pay the TV licence?<\/h2>\n

    Not paying when you need one is a criminal offence<\/strong>, and enforcement is handled by TV Licensing.<\/p>\n

    If you don\u2019t have a licence registered at your address, you\u2019ll usually receive letters warning that one may be required. These can escalate in tone over time.<\/p>\n
