As the U.K.-based neobank Revolut<\/u><\/ps-link> is looking to expand its U.S. footprint<\/u><\/ps-link>, it is launching a new promotional campaign aimed at New York City commuters.<\/p>\n

New Revolut customers can receive 100% cashback on up to five single tap-to-pay MTA rides paid for with their Revolut card as part of the company’s new “Ride with Revolut” promotion. The offer is only being extended to commuters who sign up for a new account in-person with a Revolut ambassador in subway stations across NYC.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Our goal is to make everyday financial decisions easier and more convenient for New Yorkers,” said Revolut head of growth Fiona Davies.<\/p>\n

The cost of a single MTA fare, whether via subway or bus, is $2.90. The value of the promotion translates to potential cashback rewards of up to $14.50 in value if redeemed for the maximum number of five individual rides.<\/p>\n

Lincoln Parks, founder of bank marketing agency WebMobileFusion, told American Banker that instant cashback rewards are an attractive offer for prospective consumers.<\/p>\n

“Revolut’s subway cashback is a powerful play,” he said. “It’s simple, real money, and everyone loves instant rewards. Stuff like this always grabs folks way more than ‘enter to win’ type deals.”<\/p>\n

The offer runs from August 22 until either September 20 or once a total of 3,400 new customers have signed up for the promotion, whichever occurs first.<\/p>\n

The campaign is intended to advertise Revolut’s efforts to enter the U.S. market, where the company recently rolled out secured credit cards as part of a global “super app<\/u><\/ps-link>” strategy. The neobank offers an assortment of international financial products and services, including multi-currency accounts and foreign exchange services.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Revolut’s 60 million customers spent more than $25 billion internationally in 2024, according to the company. The neobank also saw a 72% boost in revenue<\/u><\/ps-link> earlier this year as it continued to expand its international offerings.<\/p>\n

Revolut joins New York-based fintech Future<\/u><\/ps-link> in offering commuters cashback bonuses for using public transit. FutureCard<\/u><\/ps-link>, a Visa-powered “green” debit card, currently offers 100% cashback on NYC’s MTA<\/u><\/a><\/ps-link> and Boston’s MBTA<\/u><\/a><\/ps-link> fares to new customers for the first week their FutureCard account is open in a promotion running through the end of this year<\/u><\/a><\/ps-link>.<\/p>\n

“With FutureCard I’ve noticed young people love sustainability, but honestly saving cash on things they do every day (like commuting) gets people moving faster,” Parks said. “If you’ve got both helping the planet and saving money, that’s magic. But let’s be real, most folks chase dollars first, then maybe feel good about the eco side.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
