{"id":16437,"date":"2025-06-09T23:18:26","date_gmt":"2025-06-09T23:18:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/finderica.com\/?p=16437"},"modified":"2025-06-09T23:18:26","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T23:18:26","slug":"mortgage-rates-cant-shake-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/finderica.com\/?p=16437","title":{"rendered":"Mortgage Rates Can\u2019t Shake 7%"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>As hard as they try, mortgage rates keep hovering around the 7% level.<\/p>\n<p>It appears any time progress is made, they climb right back to 7%, or very close to it.<\/p>\n<p>After the jobs report on Friday was a tad hotter than expected, they turned higher after what was looking like a winning week.<\/p>\n<p>At last glance, they made their way to 6.97%, just shy of 7%, per Mortgage News Daily.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re having a difficult time getting away from those levels, though relief could still come later in the year.<\/p>\n<h2>Jobs Report Pushes Mortgage Rates Back Toward 7%<\/h2>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t necessarily a hot jobs report, but it still beat expectations.<\/p>\n<p>Some 139,000 nonfarm payrolls were added in May, well below April\u2019s levels, but more than the 126,000 expected.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, there were revisions for the April and March numbers.<\/p>\n<p>It makes you wonder if May will be revised too, but in the meantime bond traders took it as a cue to sell.<\/p>\n<p>The 10-year bond yield went up as a result and the 30-year fixed followed.<\/p>\n<p>After it appeared mortgage rates were trending down again, they were right back by 7% again.<\/p>\n<p>The culprit has been steady enough employment, rising wages, and the thought that the Fed will push back rate cuts.<\/p>\n<p>While the Fed doesn\u2019t set mortgage rates, bond traders pay attention to their monetary policy.<\/p>\n<p>As such, rates are higher and may stay that way for longer.<\/p>\n<h2>First Fed Rate Cut Not Until December?<\/h2>\n<p>Now some analysts don\u2019t expect a Fed rate cut until December, which makes you wonder if we\u2019ll even see any at all in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>There were previous forecasts of three or more cuts this year.<\/p>\n<p>Driving the change is a supposed resilient economy, at least according to the data.<\/p>\n<p>And the thought that inflation could pick up again as the tariff impact becomes more clear.<\/p>\n<p>Taken together, it makes it difficult to foresee any big moves lower for interest rates.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the data can change, and the sentiment on the street isn\u2019t as rosy.<\/p>\n<p>Talk to your average American and they\u2019ll likely paint a more pessimistic picture.<\/p>\n<p>But until the data backs that up, it might be higher for longer.<\/p>\n<p>And given it\u2019s already June, the spring home buying season has come and gone.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s looking like another lackluster year for home sales similar to 2024.<\/p>\n<p>When that dynamic finally changes is becoming more uncertain.<\/p>\n<p>But so far it\u2019s another painful year for real estate agents, loan officers, and of course, prospective home buyers.<\/p>\n<p>Not to mention recent home buyers who may have been banking on a quick refinance to lower their rate.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the near-term outlook for mortgage rates, there\u2019s still another half a year left in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>And plenty can change mortgage rate-wise.<\/p>\n<p>That could give affordability a much needed boost and also make more refinance applications pencil.<\/p>\n<p>But unfortunately patience is the name of the game right now.<\/p>\n<div class=\"abh_box abh_box_down abh_box_fancy\">\n<div class=\"abh_tab_content\">\n<section class=\"vcard author abh_about_tab abh_tab\" itemscope=\"\" itemprop=\"author\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/Person\" style=\"display:block\">\n<div class=\"abh_image\" itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutmortgage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/gravatar\/headshot1.png\" class=\"photo\" width=\"250\" alt=\"Colin Robertson\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"abh_text\">\n<p>Before creating this site, I worked as an account executive for a wholesale mortgage lender in Los Angeles.
