It\u2019s everything you\u2019d expect from Disney: nostalgia galore, festive parades and colorful novelty foods. The theme is \u201cCelebrate Happy,\u201d but let\u2019s be real \u2014 happiness gets expensive fast at the Happiest Place on Earth.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_3VJt4n\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">I was invited to attend a multiday media preview, which meant Disney picked up the tab for my hotel and park tickets. But I also bought my dad a ticket so he could join me (after all, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is way less fun when you\u2019re solo). Plus, we shelled out plenty of cash on food and extras. That gave me a firsthand look at what\u2019s worth the money \u2014 and what\u2019s not.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"_3P4ktl zeCuXk _28z5Fp _2w4PM3 _1My7YX\" data-currency=\"Text\" id=\"what's-new-at-disneyland's-70th-celebration\"><span class=\"_3P4ktl zeCuXk _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">What\u2019s new at Disneyland\u2019s 70th celebration?<\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"_3wlVa6 _2247K8\">\n<div class=\"_3wlVa6 _2247K8\" style=\"width:1440px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto;max-width:100%\">\n<figure class=\"_3ngNGS\">\n<div class=\"xkItPk\" style=\"background-color:transparent\">\n<div class=\"_30SBGi x6Nm1J\"><\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"yYnXEF\">\n<p class=\"_1xAKS5 TS4Kq- _28z5Fp\"><span class=\"TS4Kq- _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">The 70th Celebration Churro is rolled in ube sugar and topped with blue raspberry icing. Most of the new additions give nods to classic shows and the park&#8217;s history, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_3VJt4n\">\n<ul data-currency=\"List\" class=\"_2cGsD8\">\n<li class=\"_3ho7K- _1pCihN olf-Ig\">\n<div class=\"_3wlVa6 _2247K8\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">\u201cWorld of Color Happiness!\u201d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">, a revised version of the nighttime water and light show at Disneyland\u2019s sibling park, Disney California Adventure, combines audio from Walt Disney\u2019s 1955 opening-day speech with imagery from newer Disney films, including \u201cInside Out,\u201d \u201cTangled\u201d and \u201cEncanto.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_3ho7K- _1pCihN olf-Ig\">\n<div class=\"_3wlVa6 _2247K8\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">The \u201cCelebrate Happy\u201d cavalcade<\/span><\/span><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"> is basically a mini-parade through the park. This one features some characters you might not be familiar with, like Duffy (Mickey Mouse\u2019s bear, according to Disney lore) and ShellieMay (Duffy\u2019s friend, who is also a bear).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_3ho7K- _1pCihN olf-Ig\">\n<div class=\"_3wlVa6 _2247K8\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">\u201cTapestry of Happiness,\u201d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"> a projection show on the historic facade of \u201cIt\u2019s a Small World,\u201d honors Disney artist Mary Blair, who famously worked on films such as \u201cCinderella\u201d and \u201cAlice in Wonderland,\u201d and helped design the \u201cIt\u2019s a Small World\u201d ride.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_3ho7K- _1pCihN olf-Ig\">\n<div class=\"_3wlVa6 _2247K8\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">A historical walking tour <\/span><\/span><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">costs an additional $120 per person, but might appeal to diehard Disney nerds like me. It covers Disney\u2019s seven decades of history, including rides on some of the park\u2019s original attractions (without having to wait in the standard line), plus some included snacks and reserved parade seating.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_3ho7K- _1pCihN olf-Ig\">\n<div class=\"_3wlVa6 _2247K8\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">More than 70 new food items <\/span><\/span><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">are basically made for Instagram. Some treats, like a churro doused in ube sprinkles, are purple to match the event\u2019s color palette. Others nod to the past, like the W.E.D. Chili Cheese Baked Potato named after Walt Disney\u2019s initials. It\u2019s a dish Walt Disney might\u2019ve ordered, as he famously loved chili.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"_3P4ktl zeCuXk _28z5Fp _2w4PM3 _1My7YX\" data-currency=\"Text\" id=\"how-to-join-disneyland's-70th-on-a-budget\"><span class=\"_3P4ktl zeCuXk _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">How to join Disneyland\u2019s 70th on a budget<\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"_3VJt4n\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">The real magic is a trick you\u2019ll have to pull off yourself \u2014 finding ways to save. Here are my go-to tactics.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"_21EZtY eHXiWO _3_uGsM _28z5Fp _28CJ7N _1My7YX\" data-currency=\"Text\" id=\"buy-discounted-tickets-this-summer\"><span class=\"_21EZtY eHXiWO _3_uGsM _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">Buy discounted tickets this summer<\/span><\/h3>\n<div class=\"_3VJt4n\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">For visits between May 16 and August 14, 2025, Disney is offering a four-day ticket deal that breaks down to just $100 per day, which is cheap by Disney standards. Even better, authorized resellers like Undercover Tourist offer that deal (and others) for less. If you have a theme park ticket, you can enter the parks 30 minutes before everyone else, which can be key to getting on popular rides before the lines get too long. You can save on food by packing a meal, snacks and reusable water bottles.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_3VJt4n\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">But leave some room in your budget (and your belly) to splurge on the limited-time food items specific to Disney&#8217;s 70th. Among the best values are:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_3VJt4n\">\n<ul data-currency=\"List\" class=\"_2cGsD8\">\n<li class=\"_3ho7K- _1pCihN olf-Ig\">\n<div class=\"_3wlVa6 _2247K8\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">Pulled pork mac and cheese in a bread bowl <\/span><\/span><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">(Refreshment Corner, Disneyland\u2019s Main Street, U.S.A.): This delicious entree is served with the bread bowl\u2019s lid on the side. It could easily feed two people.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_3ho7K- _1pCihN olf-Ig\">\n<div class=\"_3wlVa6 _2247K8\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_3VmbAf _28z5Fp _3-to_p\">Popcorn buckets and drink sippers: <\/span><\/span><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">These come in multiple designs, including some that feature the Abominable Snowman from the Matterhorn Bobsleds ride. This comes with actual seats, a fancy dessert box, unlimited nonalcoholic drinks (plus one adult beverage if you\u2019re 21+) and a killer view. On a packed summer night? But keep in mind that individual attractions may cost extra. For example, you might go bowling at Splitsville, with prices starting at just $21 per person.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_3VJt4n\">\n<p class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\"><span class=\"_28z5Fp _3-to_p\">Several Downtown Disney restaurants are adding their own special menu items for the park&#8217;s 70th anniversary. Beignets Expressed has a blueberry cobbler beignet, and Black Tap Craft Burgers &amp; Shakes has a \u201cCotton Candy Crazyshake\u201d with purple and pink rock candy.
